Airline Rant

Okay, so this is one of the most asinine bureaucratic red-tape nightmares I've seen. My partner, Hunter, is flying up to see me tonight, hoping to get in at midnight in Eugene.

Here's his schedule:
BUR --> SFO (8:18PM - 9:34PM)
SFO --> EUG (10:30PM - 12:06AM)

Every flight today that has left Burbank and gone to San Francisco has been upwards of 90 minutes delayed. Of course, that means when Hunter's plane finally leaves, he's already missed the 10:30PM flight. Still, no problem, right? It's only 4PM now, just put him on an earlier flight, let it be 90 minutes delayed, and he'll still make the 10:30PM one. But noooo, the airline somehow thinks his plane will be the magical one that doesn't get delayed, and is going to show it "ON TIME" until it's supposed to leave. By then, it will be too late to make alternative arrangements. And the 10:30PM flight is the last one from SFO into Eugene.

Way to think ahead, guys! There's a chance to solve a problem, but United seems to have their heads up their asses about it, and won't admit to a delay until right before it's supposed to leave. I can't imagine they think, as night falls, the weather is going to suddenly improve, allowing traffic to avoid delays.

While I'm at it, shouldn't San Francisco, I don't know, EXPECT these sort of things, since they always happen, winter after winter, year after year? Is it such a complete shock that they can't adjust schedules ahead of time to compensate? I mean, what the hell?

Okay, that's my rant. With luck, the plane that Hunter is taking at 10:30PM is arriving from somewhere that will also be delayed, and he'll still be able to make it.

Holiday plans

On Friday the 21st, I'll be flying down to Pasadena to be with Hunter for the Christmas holiday; flying back on Christmas Day (oh what fun, it is to ride, on a Canadian Regional Jet 700 toniiiight). We don't have any major plans, and are mainly going to just hang out, have some good food, and enjoy each other's company.

But then, on Friday the 28th, Hunter will be flying up to Oregon to visit me! Yay! I can't wait... Not only will it make leaving on Christmas Day easier (only having to wait 2 days to see him again) but I get to show him around town and around the house he will eventually be moving into. We'll be together until January 1st, when he'll fly back to California. Then we don't see each other until January 18th. Not a huge wait, but not short either. Ah, well. We are doing the best we can until things get more settled. :)

Dreaming of the future :)

As you can tell from my previous posts, Hunter and I are starting to plan our lives together, and consider ourselves partners, as much as we can be living as far apart as we do. Well, after much discussion about how to plan for the future, we have both decided the most logical choice is for him to move here, to Oregon, and live with me. I have a good job here already, and my own house. Plus, the weather is fairly nice and temperate. Costs are a bit cheaper up this way too, since the city is not as large.

I feel badly that it uproots him to do this, and one thing I care most about is making my mate comfortable. So, I had been planning to move down there, to make it easier on him. Well, it really does make more sense for him to travel to me instead, it looks like. I've showed him a video tour of the house that I did a while back, and he agrees that it should work just fine. :) Of course, it's easiest for me, since I don't have to change much about my life, and I feel pretty guilty about that, but I do so want to be together with him, that I would take any avenue to eventually end up that way.

So! We've set a tentative date of November 2008 as a move-in date (so he can be here for the winter). It's a year out, which should give us plenty of time to get things in order and planned out. I'm pretty excited! When I go down to see him over the Christmas holiday we'll talk more about it all, also, and start making plans. Woo hoo!

What's Up With Jaycatt?

Hello, and welcome to my blog post. *applause* Thanks, thanks very much, you're too kind *more applause* No really, it's you guys, you guys I write for *applause continues* Okay, that's enough now... QUIET!

*awkward silence*

Okay, well, anyway *clear throat* We've got a great blog post for you today, explaining what I've been up to the last week or so. I have no special guest, as I cannot afford one. So let's start the show!

*opening theme music plays, probably Seasons*

Hey there ladies and gentlemen, welcome back. Have you been reading the news lately? Well, neither have I, because I've been busy doing other stuff like cooking, volunteering, playing music, and visiting friends online and off. Great stuff, yeah. Let's look back at the week and see what's been shakin', SHALL WE!? *giggles*

Last weekend was kind of fun, really. On Saturday I went over to downtown Springfield to the tuba concert and volunteered at the cookie and hot chocolate booth SUB provided, making sure things were stocked and setting up the "comfort station" canopy. It was a lot of fun! Nice to help out, and also a great tuba show. They played holiday songs, and it was an all-tuba ensemble.

Then, that night, I volunteered at the company banquet playing piano during the cocktail hour before dinner. That was also quite a bit of fun, and people said they enjoyed the background music. Plus, I gots a $25 gift card for Barnes & Noble, yay! My Dad also got to attend the banquet, which was a lot of fun to do with him too.

Sunday night, my good friend Rosa had her fourth rez-day party in Second Life. On December 8th, 2003, she joined the service. So long ago! Anyway, I played for an hour, some nice tunes and requests, and then DJ'd swing music and oldies to the crowd. Nice turnout, and a great audience!

Other than that, I've been trying to get out to visit my RL friends and take care of things around the house. Top priority goes to my mate Hunter, who I miss dearly and pine for often. I leave to see him on the 21st, so it's not long now. I can't wait! It'll be a four day visit this time, so I'm really eager to get started visiting and relaxin' together. We have a lot of movies lined up and a few wonderful meals in the works. Just the kind of vacation I'm looking for. :)

Okay, I've kind of fallen behind on the whole talk-show mood, so I'll sign off for now and talk to you all later. Hope you're having good holiday seasons as well!
